IMPARTING VALUES THROUGH FOOTBALL
“If we are to reach real peace in the world, we shall have to begin with the children.“
Football Helps is a non-profit project that offers young people in Burundi/Africa, but also in Austria, a platform to help them recognize their own potential.
The starting position
The Republic of Burundi lies between East and Central Africa in the Great Lakes region and is one of the smallest countries in Africa. The country is marked by decades of ethnopolitical conflict. Currently the average age of the population is 17.6 years.

The three pillars of Football Helps
Football Helps is a non-profit organisation that uses the integrative power of football to teach children and young people in Burundi important values in a playful way. This takes place in the form of football tournaments, community work and educational opportunities.
According to both the World Bank and the OECD, Burundi is one of the five poorest countries in the world and is marked by a long-lasting ethnopolitical conflict. The average age of the population is 17.6 years and the population growth of 3% clearly exceeds the economic growth. Football Helps therefore focuses on young people and children and gives them the opportunity for personal development.
We are happy about donations of a financial nature as well as donations in kind! We are also always looking for helping hands to support us at events.
All donations and income are used exclusively to finance the project on site.
On the one hand, there are various fundraising events throughout the year, which are advertised through our social media channels. On the other hand Football Helps organizes 2-3 events in Austria every year to generate income. This includes for example a punch stand or a barefoot football tournament.
Our goal is to build trust and reduce prejudices between children and young people of different ethnic self-identification through encounters on and off the pitch. We also want to offer a platform that enables them to recognise their own potential.
The long-term goal is to have our own football pitch and clubhouse as well as an independent project on site that no longer depends on donations from Austria.
“Be the change you want to see in the world.”
